Development Tools

When selecting a new switching architecture, designers and system architects need to feel comfortable that they can, with a high degree of confidence, predict how the technology will perform inside their set of system requirements. Typical questions include the following:

  • How will the chipset handle multicast traffic?
  • What performance can I expect to achieve from a new switching chipset using my existing backplane?
  • Will the system drop packets if a particular port is receiving a long chain of jumbo frames interspersed with small packets containing voice calls?

In addition to the standard set of hardware development tools, Enigma has developed a suite of architecture and system debugging tools that help engineers make critical system decisions efficiently and accurately. More specifically, Enigma's tool suite includes the following:

  • Event Driven HybriCore Model: Enables system architects to evaluate the chipset's behavior when stimulated with different traffic patterns.

  • Backplane Monitor: Enables designers to view the characteristics of individual links and monitor the effects of modifications to the settings of the sophisticated adaptive TX and RX equalization circuitry that controls the backplane serial links.

  • Chassis Simulator: Allows customers to predict the frequency improvement that the use of the HybriCore chipset will be able to deliver for an existing backplane. Enigma's simulation environment uses an S-Parameter channel model to predict the frequency improvement for a given backplane. Enigma's simulator, customized for the HybriCore chipset, accurately simulates performance, with the user able to configure link parameters such as the number of crosstalk aggressors, target BER and modulation type.
